In vitro fertilization i.e. IVF is a process of fertilization wherein an egg and sperm are combined together in a laboratory and the embryo is then transferred to the uterus. Opting for an IVF treatment is the first thing that comes into a couple’s mind after they find it hard to conceive. Since opting for an IVF is both exciting and frightening, couples are never really sure of opting to get pregnant by this fertility method. Below are few things one should consider before opting for IVF.

Do a lot of research

Before you decide to opt for IVF, it is important to understand the process. You need to be aware of the whole process, do through research and only then opt for it. Being emotionally and physically prepared is important. Though the process is painful, it all makes it worthwhile when you welcome your child into the world.

It requires a lot of time

This fertility treatment requires you to have a lot of patience and time in hand since it is not a one-day thing. For the first few weeks, you will have to take fertility medicines that help in stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Visit to the doctor for a blood test and ultrasound is also essential. After the stimulation phase is over, the eggs from the ovaries and the sperm are then combined in a laboratory and then transferred back into the uterus.

Get proper health check-up done

You will have to get a proper health check-up done before you opt for this line of treatment. Following a healthy lifestyle and being healthy is important. Quit smoking and limit your alcohol intake. Also, your blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol should be under control. Getting good sleep for at least 8-10 hours is important.

Good timing is important

When trying to conceive through IVF, good timing is essential. You should avoid opting for this treatment if you are going through any lifestyle changes, job changes or highly stressful situations.  Being happy and stress-free is essential when trying to conceive. Along with the timing, your age also plays an important role. Women above age of 40 would find it difficult to conceive through this process.

IVF doesn’t guarantee pregnancy

The success rate of IVF highly depends on your age and lifestyle habits. This type of fertility treatment does not guarantee 100% pregnancy. Some women conceive in the first attempt, whereas, few women find it difficult even after multiple attempts. As per a study by Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), the success rate for women under the age of 35 is 48%, whereas, success rate for women over the age of 42 is only 45%.

There is a risk of multiple pregnancies

If implantation of more than one embryo is done even by mistake, then you are at a risk of getting pregnant with multiple babies. This also increases the risk of premature birth and underweight babies.

IVF does have its share of side effects

Just like other medical treatments, IVF too has its share of side effects on the body. Owing to different hormonal changes, you may feel more emotional during the IVF cycle and even the fertility medications. You will also experience breast tenderness, cramping in pelvic areas, weight gain, nausea and other physical changes.

There are ways to make it affordable

IVF can cost you anywhere between Rs. 1,00,000- Rs. 5,00,000. If you don’t have finances in hand, then you can opt to take a loan for IVF treatment from Credit Fair. We at Credit Fair offer loans upto Rs. 10 lakhs for IVF treatments at ZERO COST EMIs and minimal processing fee.
